3rd Annual One Night One Shirt Campaign

Upstate Companies Support Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas During Its 3rd Annual One Night One Shirt Campaign

GREENVILLE, S.C.  (Aug. 26, 2016) – RMHC of the Carolinas hosted it 3rd annual One Night One Shirt t-shirt campaign today. Over 375 t-shirts were purchased by employees of 17 Upstate companies and organizations in support of Ronald McDonald House. The companies and organizations purchased a specially designed “One Night One Shirt” t-shirt and everyone wore the t-shirt to work to bring awareness to RMHC of the Carolinas and its mission of keeping families close to their critical ill or injured child receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility.

RMHC of the Carolinas’ One Night One Shirt campaign also has a significant meaning for employees wearing the t-shirt. The $8 donation (on top of the cost of the t-shirt) is how much Ronald McDonald House asks each family to donate to stay per night. Of course, if a family cannot make the $8 per night donation, they are never turned away because of their in ability to pay. Due to healthcare costs and other unpredictable expenses, over 80% of Ronald McDonald House families cannot afford to pay. The One Night One Shirt Campaign allows donors to subsidize this donation for families who cannot pay.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our Upstate business community and donors,” said Marti Spencer, Executive Director/CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas. “For this campaign our goal is to spread awareness of our services and mission. We are thrilled over 375 people will be wearing their support of RMHCC.”

RMHC of the Carolinas also partnered with the Greenville Drive for the campaign. Everyone who wears their t-shirt to the ball park tonight will receive complimentary access into the Greenville Drive baseball game vs. the Asheville Tourists at 7:00 p.m.

This year’s participating companies and organizations include Alpha Delta Pi of Furman University, Robert Half, Alliance Consulting Engineers, Swenson & Associates, Walgreens, J.B. Watts Co., Inc., McMillan Pazdan Smith, Indexx Printing, Wells Fargo, Dixon Hughes Goodman, Amica Mutual Insurance Company, Baldor Electric, Greenville Swamp Rabbits, Sticky Fingers, Greenville Health System, Integrated Power Services, and Pope, Smith, Brown, & King, P.A.

Wells Fargo Helps RMHCC “Build Hope” and Serve More Families

Wells Fargo Helps Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas “Build Hope” and Serve More Families

Gives $50,000 Towards Capital Campaign Expansion

GREENVILLE, S.C.  (Aug. 22, 2016) – RMHC of the Carolinas received a $50,000 gift from Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) toward its “Building Hope” Capital Campaign expansion. The gift will help RMHC of the Carolinas expand its current program of one House in Greenville to an expanded home, serving 24 total families ultimately allowing them to be nearby their critically ill or injured child receiving treatment at a medical facility.

“Wells Fargo is pleased to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas in their efforts to help with the day-to-day needs of our community’s families and children in crisis,” said Wells Fargo Upstate Market President Brian Rogers. “This helps demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the Greenville community and promoting the quality of life for everyone.”

RMHC of the Carolinas broke ground on its $3.5 million capital campaign expansion project in April of 2016. The expansion will allow the Ronald McDonald House to double the amount of families it currently serves by adding an additional 12 guest bedrooms. The 17,500 square foot expansion will connect to the current House located at 706 Grove Road, directly across the street from Greenville Health System Children’s Hospital and Memorial Hospital.

“We believe that when families are together, they heal better,” said Marti Spencer, Executive Director/CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas. “Through Wells Fargo’s gift we are one step closer to not having to turn away families due to lack of bedrooms. Their gift will be remembered for years to come and families from around the Upstate.”

“We take seriously our commitment to help families and children in crisis, and this is just one example of how our efforts make an impact in the community,” said Wells Fargo South Carolina Community Affairs Officer Susan Bankson. “It’s the small measures that add up to make a huge difference in the communities we serve.”

The expansion project has raised approximately two-thirds of the funds needed and is seeking donations to meet its $3.5 million goal. Pledges and donations can be made online at http://rmhc-carolinas.org/capital-campaign/ or mailed to Marti Spencer, Executive Director/CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, 706 Grove Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605. Meet William Extein

Positive Acts of Kindness at RMH

One positive action trumps a thousand good intentions.  This is the motto one local Lowes employee lives by each and every day.

Upon meeting the Director of Operations for the Ronald McDonald House Kristi Hall Ayala, William Extein immediately started his positive actions.  Kristi had come to Lowes looking for a bathroom sink stopper.  With many families coming in and out of the House daily, there is lots of wear and tear on the House’s 12 bedrooms, each with private bathroom.  Wanting to ensure the families were as comfortable as possible during their stay at the House, but without the budget to hire an expert, Kristi planned to install it herself.

William generously offered his services to help Kristi and the Ronald McDonald House by installing the sink stopper.  But, he didn’t stop there.  William has since fixed rain gutters, installed new brackets to the rain gutters, painted ceilings, fixed toilets and lent a hand anywhere he could.

These charitable acts are not uncommon for William who is a former Boy Scout and US Airforce veteran.  He is also on the board of a local charity Defenders of Children.

William’s inspiration is his father who worked for charities for over 20 years after his own retirement.  William knows a small act of kindness can go a long way, especially for families in need like those who stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

William’s positive actions have trumped quite a few more than a thousand good intentions.  His positive acts of kindness have helped many families feel comfortable at their “home away from home” at the Ronald McDonald House.

BUILDING HOPE

RMH_Logo_v6Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas Breaks Ground on “Building Hope” Expansion Project

Expanded House Will Keep More Families Close To Their Sick Or Injured Child

GREENVILLE, S.C.  (April 15, 2016) – RMHC of the Carolinas broke ground on its $3.5 million capital campaign expansion project today. The expansion will allow the Ronald McDonald House, located in Greenville, S.C., to double the amount of families it currently serves by adding an additional 12 guest bedrooms.

“Our Chapter is absolutely thrilled to begin this new adventure,” said Marti Spencer, Executive Director/CEO of RMHC of the Carolinas. “Today is an important day for families all across the Upstate of South Carolina and beyond our borders. The expansion will strengthen our ability to meet the needs of children being cared for in an outpatient and inpatient setting; ultimately meeting our goal of keeping families close and helping to enable family centered care.”

The 17,500 square foot expansion will connect to the current House located at 706 Grove Road, directly across the street from Greenville Health System Children’s Hospital and Memorial Hospital. Features of the expansion include 12 additional guest rooms with private baths; a new guest check-in and main lobby; a large dining hall; a commercial kitchen designed for multiple families; an elevator making all rooms accessible to guests and visitors; a business center to help families keep up with their homes; an expanded laundry facility; and a community conference room to welcome volunteers and community partners.

In 2015, RMHC of the Carolinas served 400 children and their families but the demand for rooms far exceeded availability and 254 families had to find alternative housing. In a recent study 90 percent of hospital leaders agreed that RMHC helped families reduce stress and costs of caring for a sick child. And, as the Greenville community and its medical facilities continue to grow, the need for the House program will continue to increase year after year.

“The services RMHC provides are a vital part of the healthcare continuum,” said Tom Mascari, Board Chairman of RMHC of the Carolinas. “We wanted to continue to fulfill our mission and serve more families to provide them with the resources they need so they can better focus on their child’s medical needs. It was clear we needed to expand and we look forward to helping more families in need.”

For 27 years, RMHC of the Carolinas has served more than 10,000 families from the Upstate of South Carolina, its six surrounding states and from outside the USA. Families come to the House at any time of day or night in search of a place to stay within steps of their child receiving medical treatment at an area medical facility. In addition, the House provides meals, transportation and compassionate support— all the comforts of home. The average length of stay for a family is 11 nights.

“We have received an extremely positive response from the Greenville and Upstate community in our goal of raising money for the expansion,” said Joe Swann, Capital Campaign Co-Chairman. “There was a need and the community truly rallied around the Chapter’s mission. The community is our campaign foundation and it is through them we have reached this important day.”

Greenville Health System Children’s Hospital, McDonald’s GSA Co-Op, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and Fluor are lead donors for the campaign. 29605. For more information on the “Building Hope” Capital Campaign, please visit: http://rmhc-carolinas.org/capital-campaign/.
