  • Debi Warren, Volunteer Coordinator for Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, and Ronald McDonald visited Berry Shoals Intermediate School in Duncan, SC.  The students were excited to learn about the mission of the RMH and how they could help by joining the Millions of Tabs Club.  Ronald delighted everyone with an amazing show.  The students were proud to present the House with much-needed wish list items.  Thank you, Berry Shoals, for doing your “berry” best to make a difference!

Taylors Helping Hands presented Ronald McDonald House with a $500 check on November 11, 2011. This represents part of the proceeds from an annual golf tournament which is held near the University of SC in Columbia. This charity was started by Teresa, Tom, and Tara Cothran after the death of Taylor E. Cothran in 2007. Taylor was an 18 year old freshman who died in 2007 when he fell from a 5th floor dorm room at USC. Because the Cothran family was ministered to by so many, they started their charity to help families who are in need. Teresa has been a volunteer in our Ronald McDonald Family Room since that time and has a genuine love for helping others.

A Fall Gingerbread House was presented to the Ronald McDonald House on October 5 by Chris Merritz, Enrichment Coordinator at the Westminster Retirement Center of Greenville. Chris’ husband baked the walls of the house and the residents of the retirement center did all the decorating. She also brought the creators of the gingerbread house with her to the Ronald House. They watched a video about us and then took a tour of the downstairs area so they could see where their creation will reside for the October/November timeframe. After their visit with us, they enjoyed a meal at a local McDonald’s before returning home.

The ladies and gentlemen did a great job and enjoyed their time working together on the project. It was such fun that they have decided to do another one for the holiday season! Thanks to everyone at Westminster for a wonderful creation that will delight all of our children as well as their parents.

You’ll make a child’s day with the latest Scentsy cuddly bear Sasha! This sweet bear comes with a zipper pouch to tuck away your favorite scent that you select among many that Scentsy offers. This would make a great gift for a baby shower, a homecoming for that new baby or for that special little person in your life. Scentsy’s Shannon DeWeese will donate proceeds from the sales of Sasha to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas in support of our mission of providing for children in critical care. The Ronald McDonald House can provide an acknowledgment that a donation was made in the name of that special little someone. Please contact Shannon for details through her website or at 864-346-5192.

    More Than Diamonds

More Than Diamonds is a delightful drama-adventure for the whole family. Twelve-year old Alexander Mortensen has always dreamed of being a hero, but when he sets out to recover a stolen heirloom he finds that mystery and danger have come right to his door and that being a hero will require more of him than he ever imagined.

Critics have described More Than Diamonds as “deeply considered and beautifully modulated” (The Times-Examiner), a movie that “hits all the right marks from a dramatic and technical standpoint” (The Easley Progress), and “a meaningful, affirming film that can be enjoyed by the entire family” (The Independent Critic). The movie has also been awarded the Dove Foundation’s Seal of Approval for family entertainment (dove.org).

And now, through a special arrangement, for every copy of More Than Diamonds ordered through this page, a donation will be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of The Carolinas.

    Thank You Walmart!

Thank you to Walmart representative Michael Washington Sr. who presented the Ronald McDonald House with a check for $2000 for our Share-A-Night program.  This very generous donation will help provide 3 weeks of family night stays for all 12 families staying at our facilities, or almost 9 months of family night stays for a single family!  Thank you so much Walmart!!!

Marti Spencer, Chief Development Officer for Ronald McDonald House Charities (back row, third from the left) joins other grateful non-profits for a luncheon and check presentation. Our thanks to the Covidien Team for their generous donation. Can’t wait to have you all out to the House!

Debi Warren of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas is proud to announce the first official member of the Millions of Tabs Club. Bell’s Crossing Elementary School of Simpsonville was presented a plaque on May 27, 2011 to honor this achievement. Jillian Whitbeck received the plaque for the school.

The Millions of Tabs Club was started in October 2009 to encourage schools to create funds for the House through recycling as well as encourage them to take care of Mother Earth. Congratulations Bell’s Crossing!

Our heartfelt thanks to Leanne Ely, New York Times bestselling author of the Saving Dinner Series who donated a meal for the House and 4 other guests as an auction item at our Holiday McGala. The highest bidder was Ronald McDonald House board Member Leslie Milling who brought her family and a friend to share in a great home cooked meal at the House. Leanne is bringing families back to the table one meal at a time, check out her website at savingdinner.com.

Laura Turner, who works with pre-school children at Five Oaks Academy in Simpsonville, spearheaded a pop tab drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. She challenged other Montessori schools to do the same. They donated them to us on May 6, 2011. Pictured left to right are Abigail Gooch, Dylan Turner and Eli Ireland. Thanks to all who participated!
