Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas Celebrates 30 Years in Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 17, 2019) – During the month of June Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of the Carolinas is celebrating its 30th Anniversary in the Upstate. The House, located on Grove Road, opened in 1989 with the help of many volunteers and generous benefactors. Since that time it has served close to 13,000 families keeping them close to their critically ill or injured child receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility. Families come from all over South Carolina, its bordering states, and even internationally to receive specialized care here in the Upstate. There is no set length of stay, it is all dependent on how long the child receives treatment. Some families stay one or two nights, some stay over 200 nights. “This House has served as a beacon of hope for so many families offering them a sense of normalcy while they courageously stand by their child’s side during life’s most precious moments,” said Marti Spencer, CEO/Executive Director of RMHC® of the Carolinas. “Over these past 30 years, we have completed remodeling, a major expansion and many more projects to maintain our House, all built by the love of our community. Without so many generous supporters we would not be able to fulfill our great mission. Thank you for 30 amazing years here in Greenville.” On June 21, 2018, the House opened a 17,000 sq. foot expansion adding an additional 12 guestrooms, a larger kitchen, extra common areas, more laundry services and an expanded guest check in. Today, RMHC® of the Carolinas graciously welcomes and serves 24 families at a time offering them all of life’s essentials so they can solely focus on the needs of their child. Families can stay for free at the Ronald McDonald House and that is where the fundraising and support of the community comes in. The House asks donors and supporters to “Fund A Night” for families, so that they can continue to offer this service. It costs $89 a night per family to continue to operate the House. RMHC of the Carolinas’ mission is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. Since 1989, the Chapter has provided support to more than 13,000 families through the Ronald McDonald House program. More than a room, the House serves as a quiet place for families to be alone or as a place of companionship, sharing and emotional support with other families who are also caring for a sick child being treated at nearby medical facilities.
